West Elks Weekend

Moab
We drove over the mountains to the Moab area to check out the sights and surroundings. What an amazing place to visit. We drove in through Cisco, a somewhat abandoned town before crossing the Colorado River near the historic Dewey Bridge. Stops included Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park Island in the Sky District, and Dead Horse Point State Park.

Bandalier
We spent a weekend in Santa Fe, New Mexico on vacation. My friend Wetherbee recommended we visit Bandalier National Monument near Los Alamos. This was a really fun day exploring the interactive ruins and scenery in the area.

Winter Trip to the Bighorns
Visited the Bighorns in the winter to do some trailer camping, skiingk and snowmobiling with my buddy Ford. We spend a few days exploring the mountains and lodges.

Pawnee Buttes - Revisited
We went for a day drive out ot the Pawnee Buttes. The last time I was here, the racked barn was still standing and there wasn’t a modern windmill in sight. Things have changed quickly out here.

Lake Yellowstone
We made the long drive from Denver to Lake Yellowstone in the center of Yellowstone National Park. We drove through Casper, Thermopolis, and Cody with the start of our adventure via the East Entrance to the park. Fall colors are turning around the park, only helping the grandeur of Yellowstone. We stopped at Sylvan Lake on the way into the park before getting checked in to our room at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel.

Camping @ Michigan Lakes
I spent a night backpacking with my buddy Ford in the Michigan Lakes under the east side of the Nokhu Crags. This area is accessed via Cameron Pass on the Northwest corner of Rocky Mountain National Park. This was a quick one night trip. The highlight of the trip was watching a stand off between 4 elk and a bull moose in the drainage below us. The light was dim and was just one of those occasiions where we just watched the action and didn’t even try to capture it on camera.

Texas Creek
Jolie, Tessa & I spent a night camping with Ford on Texas Creek in the Taylor Park. A fun night hanging out with great weather.

A weekend at Colorado National Monument and Taylor Park
We took the vanagon for a quick weekend trip over to the western slope when Tessa was about 6 weeks old. We spent a couple of nights at Colorado National Monument and spent one night at Taylor Park Reservoir on our way home.

Southeast Colorado over Memorial Day
I spent the long weekend touring Southeast Colorado with my buddy Larry. On the weekend when everyone goes west out of Denver, we decided to go another direction.
