One Night in Essex
For our second visit to a historic lodge around Glacier National Park, we booked a room in the newly renovated Loge Glacier, also known as the Izaak Walton Inn. We really enjoyed our room, everything was in great condition, the bed was comforable, and Loge does a good job of making a stay enjoyable.
Since Jolie worked, we didnt’ get checked into the hotel until around 6 pm. We ate dinner in the bar located in the basement and spent the evening exploring the Izaak Walton Inn, Essex, and the BNSF train yard located there.
The next morning we slept in and had breakfast in the restaurant. All the food was fantastic at the Loge. We checked out and decided to hike the South Boundary trail in Glacier National Park from the Walton Trailhead. This trail is not the most used and is a bit more overgown than many of the trails in Glacier. We went a couple of miles and decided to turn around at a very overgrown section that had some fresh bear tracks in the mud.
We finished our mini exursion with stops at the Goal Lick and Silver Stairs Falls along US Highway 2.
